GETTING STARTED

How Do I Get Started With Counseling or Mediation?

Availability varies by provider, service, insurance network, and appointment type. The quickest way to check is to request an appointment online or call the office at (651) 307-4993. You can also meet our therapists to see who may be the best fit.

Most clients can request therapy directly without a referral. Some insurance plans or programs require a referral or prior authorization, so check with your plan before your first appointment. Court-related evaluations usually start from a court order, stipulation, or attorney referral.

Your provider learns what brings you in, reviews your history and current concerns, explains confidentiality and its limits, and helps you set practical goals. It is also a good time to ask about approach, scheduling, and payment. Learn more about individual counseling.

The office aims to respond within 1 to 2 business days. Response times can vary during holidays, busy periods, or provider absences. This website is not monitored for emergencies; call or text 988, or call 911, if you need urgent help.

Share your contact information, the type of service you want, general scheduling preferences, and whether you prefer in-person or telehealth care. Do not send detailed private health information through regular email. Your provider will gather clinical details securely.

INSURANCE & PAYMENT

Do You Take Insurance, and How Do I Pay?

The practice works with many major plans, including Medica, Anthem and Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare and Optum, UCare, and Minnesota Medical Assistance. Coverage and network status depend on the provider and plan, so verify benefits before your first appointment. Contact the office with questions.

Yes. Self-pay and health savings account (HSA) payments may be available. Ask the office about current rates and payment options when you request an appointment.

Usually not. Divorce mediation, family court evaluations, wellness consultation, and some consulting services are generally private pay because they are not medical treatment.

Coverage varies. Some plans cover sessions only when medical-necessity requirements are met. Confirm benefits with your plan and the office before scheduling. Read more about couples counseling in Forest Lake.

THERAPY & COUNSELING

Which Type of Counseling Is Right for Me?

Consider reaching out if changes in mood, behavior, sleep, school, or friendships last more than a few weeks or get in the way of daily life. A consultation can help you decide on next steps. Learn about child and teen therapy and child mental health from NIMH.

Yes. Couples, marriage, and relationship counseling all describe therapy where partners work on communication, conflict, and connection together. Engaged couples can also prepare with premarital counseling.

MEDIATION & FAMILY COURT

How Does Divorce and Family Mediation Work in Minnesota?

Divorce mediation is a confidential process where a neutral mediator helps both spouses discuss issues, exchange proposals, and work toward agreements. The mediator does not take sides or make decisions for you. Learn more about divorce mediation in Forest Lake and Minnesota court ADR.

You do not need an attorney at every session, and each person may get independent legal advice. Having a Minnesota attorney review proposed terms before you sign or file is strongly recommended. You can find a lawyer through the Minnesota State Bar.

Mediation is designed as a private process. Participants generally sign an agreement that explains confidentiality and its limits, and the mediator reviews those expectations before substantive mediation begins.

A parenting plan can cover schedules, holidays, transportation, exchanges, decision-making, communication, child-related expenses, activities, and travel. See co-parenting and parenting plan mediation and Minnesota custody and parenting time information.

No. An assessment or evaluation is a neutral, information-gathering service with a defined referral question, and results may be shared with the court or attorneys. Therapy is treatment focused on the client. Learn about family court evaluations and parenting assessments.
